Our Story

At Sleepynest

We are all parents focused on creating the most calming, effective and safest infant sleep environment.

We help parents transition their babies from the womb to the world, reducing stress and crying, improving physical and neurological development.

Our products help Mom and Dad be more rested, more confident and more successful parents while reducing the exhaustion and frustration felt during the early newborn months.

With an experienced team of baby product engineers and funding from the parent of a baby who succumbed to infant suffocation/SIDS, we have taken a scientific approach, leveraging clinical study data to develop products that are designed to work the way a baby’s early-stage brain and body functions.

Today’s Sleepynest Calming Cradle

After years of engineering, we’ve developed a new smart cradle that’s affordable and incorporates new technology for today’s parents. It includes features like a fully-breathable mattress that eliminates the hazard of suffocation, the ability to customize the cradle operation to that of the mother’s own biometric rhythms and a smartphone app for ease of control.

At Sleepynest, we are highly focused on creating the most calming, most effective, and safest sleep environment for infants.  You will find we have achieved that goal in the Sleepynest Calming Cradle and we look forward to helping you become the best parent you can be.

Our angel funding comes from the Abby Milagros Initiative in memory of Abby, who succumbed to infant suffocation/SIDS at an early age.  The design of the Sleepynest Calming Cradle was made to prevent the types of tragedies that took Abby’s life and to give other babies and parents the chance to raise happy and healthy babies of their own.

Our History

The concept of a transitional cradle for newborns was the brainchild of Dr. James D. Gatts, a U.S. Air Force jet pilot and NASA physician and scientist. He studied the effects of the environment during space missions and realized the enormous impact rapid changes in the environment can have on living organisms. He theorized that humans are impacted most by large changes in the environment when they’re born.

To help ease the transition from the womb environment to the outside world, Dr. Gatts developed a prototype bassinet in his brother’s Silicon Valley garage that replicated the walking motions and heartbeat sounds a fetus experiences in the womb. He evaluated the results on his own family and friends and was struck by the overwhelmingly positive results.

Versions were developed for the consumer market, the hospital NICU, and the well-baby nursery. Clinical studies were completed for pre-term infants and full-term babies. These studies showed that babies slept through the night sooner and longer, cried significantly less, gained weight faster, and had improved neurological development.  The challenge was producing the product in a way that it was easy to use and at a price point that consumers could afford – today’s Sleepynest Calming Cradle meets those challenges.

With Sleepynest, you don’t have to choose between caring for your baby and getting the sleep you need
